The Wicklow Mountains are often subjected to harsh winter conditions, leading to snow covered hills and valleys, including Glendasan, Glendalough and Glenmalure.
Though beautiful to look at, it should not be forgotten that life and work still goes on for those living in these areas during a snowfall, especially when animals have to be tended to.
In the 19th century when mining was being carried out men still had to make their way through whatever was the prevailing weather to get to the mines to earn a living. Miners were only paid once they commenced work.
